FORMOSAT-2 Imaging Status for Disaster Areas of Japan Earthquake   2011.03.13

The imaging areas on 3/13 are three strips of Sendai, Fukushima, and Ichihara for the Japan earthquake, as shown in Figure 1. The red mark in the figure represents for the epicenter, the blue for damaged areas, and the GoogleEarth overlays for the taken FORMOSAT-2 images.

NSPO has sent the image products to JAXA Sentinel Asia and domestic distribution centers to support the disaster relief. Besides, various international organizations, academic institutions, and media asked NSPO to provide FORMOSAT-2 images through the internet, including Harvard University, San Diego Super Computing Lab, UN-SPIDER, Google Crisis Response, the Associated Press, Reuters, and Agence France-Presse. Based on the humanitarian spirit, the images regarding this event can be used for nonprofit purposes without charge, provided that the users refer to FORMOSAT-2 images and get approval from NSPO.
