During the program execution of FORMOSAT-3, the National Space Organization planned 14 domestic components in order to achieve the objective of soliciting participation of domestic component manufacturers in developing satellite key components. At the same time, through the introduction of research and development techniques for the space qualified products, the upgrade of the technical level of domestic manufacturers and the increase of their competitiveness in the international market could be obtained.
The domestically developed components for this program including 14 items such as sun sensor, power converter module, battery assembly, flight computer, mission interface unit, S & L band receiving and transmitting antenna, S & L band receiving and transmitting combiner, S & L band receiving and transmitting filter, flight heater and structure preparation. These components are developed and manufactured under the contract between the satellite cooperation company, Orbital Science Corporation, from the USA and Taiwan´s local companies such as Shihlin Electric & Engineering Corp., eBright , Yung Tien Industrial Co., Ltd., ACER, Victory Microwave Corporation and Aerospace Industrial Development Corp. (AIDC).
After inspection and acceptance by the Orbital Science Corporation, the above mentioned domestically manufactured components started to arrive the National Space Organization satellite integration and test facility together with other satellite components in May, 2004 to proceed the satellite assembly and testing activities. After the satellite acceptance review at the beginning of 2005, a series of testing for the space environment verification such as satellite electromagnetic compatibility test, thermal vacuum test, acoustic test, vibration test, solar panel deployment test, mass proper measurement, and comprehensive performance test were conducted. All these tests have been successfully completed in December 2005. This is the evidence that all the components have qualified for space grade and FORMOSAT-3 mission requirements.
In recognition of the effort and success of all the domestic component manufacturers dedicated to the FORMOSAT-3 program, the National Space Organization and Orbital Science Corporation awarded the approval certificate of domestically developed components and space environment testing certification to all the above mentioned participating companies, on January 24th, 2006, at the National Concert Hall. |
