““UrMap” Delivered 2 Ur Home”

National Space Organization (NSPO), National Taiwan Normal University (hereinafter refer to as the NTNU) and Olemap Inc. in December 2005 are jointly promoting the “”UrMap” all the way 2 Ur Home” activity. The result of the first free access ever in Taiwan to the Internet satellite directory information platform was jointly achieved by NSPO who provided with Taiwan satellite images taken by FORMOSAT-2, NTNU who offered the image value-added services and Olemap Inc. who integrated the mapping applications of the web site.

After the mapping of satellite images by Olemap Inc. offers an even more convenient free directory Internet search web site at http://www.urmap.com . Through the “Urmap”, not only that can you look at Taiwan from Space, you can also now look up real space street images and get to know your versatile living surrounding environment and information more easily, such as the locations of Government organizations, recreational spots and even convenient stores nearby. UrMap offers an easy search method which requires entering only key words for finding your searching location. You can also find transport guides and route planning; all you need to do is enter both the names of the departing and destination points regardless whether you are driving or traveling via public transport, UrMap will schedule an appropriate route for you. The all new and more convenient “UrMap” makes traveling so easy and prepare in advance.

NSPO expressed that satellite images had long been used in national security and border surveillance fields, under the situation of having the autonomy in the control of the satellites, NSPO will endeavor to expand the application of satellite images in other fields.

NTNU pointed out that, apart from making contributions in the academic research and Government policies, it was highly expected that the satellite image resource and application of the relevant technology could be used to benefit daily life of the general public. As a result, the development of the “UrMap” with NSPO and Olemap was the attempt, through the application of geographical information system, to achieve the purpose of benefiting the living convenience of the general public in that they could now search their travel destinations on satellite image information from home. It may also assist in attaining the vision of “ Bringing Technology Into Life and Bringing Life Into Technology” by bringing the seemingly un-reachable high-tech into our home, and at the same time, expanding hereafter to explore future applications in environment, education and disaster prevention areas.

The Chairman of Olemap Inc. Cho Cheng-Hung said, there was a close relationship between map and general living, and the tight would be even closer after the availability of UrMap. In the future, UrMap will be even more proactively to provide the general public with diversified information. People would be able to easily obtain all variety of living information, including restraints, fashion, housing and recreation, by simply logging onto the easy-operated UrMap without reading through hips of hard copies of information.
