FORMOSAT-2 temporary parks on the 737 km orbit 15 minutes after its successful launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California At 1:47AM early this morning (May 21 st of 2004). Current parking orbit of 737 km high is 14 km higher than the expected one. One hour and 14 minutes after launch, 3:01AM early morning of Taipei Time, ROCAST-2 made her first contact with the Kiruna ground station located in Sweden. From satellite telemetry, NSPO operators confirmed successful communication function and deployment of solar panel. FORMOSAT-2 will then contact Taiwan ground station for the first time at 8:25AM local time. At that very moment, President Chen Shui-Bian, along with NSC Chairperson Dr. Wu and NARL President Dr. Lee will initiate the first communication between FORMOSAT-2 ground station and NSPO inside the Presidential Palace. |
