On April 8, 2004, Prof. Lou-Chuang Lee, Director of the National Space Organization (NSPO), and Prof. Chjeng-Lun Shieh, Director of the National Cheng Kung University's Disaster Prevention Research Center, had signed a collaborative agreement at the “FORMOSAT-2 Image Application Promotion Ceremony”. The signing ceremony took place at the NSPO's conference room in the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park.
The NSPO is the executive organization of Taiwan's space program. Through the promotion of business organizations, the NSPO will establish the capability of high-tech system integration in order to establish the foundation of Taiwan's space technology development. The National Cheng Kung University Disaster Prevention Research Center recognized that the FORMOSAT-2 has several key features such as high-resolution images, instantaneous image capture, and high re-visiting frequencies. These features can provide support to the tasks of national disaster prevention and rescue and environment monitoring. Therefore, NSPO and National Cheng Kung University Disaster Prevention Research Center have reached and signed an agreement on future collaboration between both parties.
After signing the agreement, National Cheng Kung University Disaster Prevention Research Center will become the contracted partner and client in the application of FORMOSAT-2satellite images on natural disaster preventions and environment monitoring. In the future, National Cheng Kung University Disaster Prevention Research Center will share the images captured by FORMOSAT-2with Central Geological Survey, MOEA to conduct researches on disasters prevention and rescue and on environment monitoring. NSPO will provide the FORMOSAT-2 image processing system and the user right of FORMOSAT-2 satellite images to National Cheng Kung University Disaster Prevention Research Center for the research, application, and promotion purposes. |
